Original Medicare

Provides coverage for Part A (Hospital coverage), and Part B (Outpatient services)

Medicare Supplement

Plans sold by private insurance companies designed to supplement, or fill in the gaps, of Original Medicare.

Prescription Drug Plan

Also known as “Part D” of Medicare. You must be enrolled in Part A and/or eligible for Part B to obtain a drug plan. *When purchasing a Medicare Supplement, you are encouraged to purchase a separate Prescription Drug plan.

Medicare Advantage Plan

Also known as “Part C” of Medicare. These plans are commonly referred to as “all in one” plans. They combine Part A and B of Medicare and include Part D prescription drug plan. They will vary in coverage and monthly premium. Plans have a co-pay or co-insurance, depending on the specific service. Plans have networks of providers that contract with the plan for a lower out of pocket cost to you. Some plans include additional benefits not covered by Medicare, such as preventive vision and dental or a gym membership.
